Howdy! And thank you so much for taking the time to consider sponsoring the La Salle County Fair & Wild Hog Cook-Off! This event is produced by the La Salle County Fair Association in Cotulla, Texas. We are a 501c3 non-profit, run by a determined group of volunteers with only a couple of paid employees to answer the always ringing phones.
The purpose of our organization, and our number one priority, is to provide scholarships. We offer graduating high school seniors from La Salle County a scholarship based largely on their participation in our events. In 2014 we recognized an additional need and began our continuing education scholarship program. Much of our event staff volunteer group is made up of college students on a return trip to earn scholarships. These students must match the high pace of our event, and they gain extremely valuable leadership, communication, and customer service skills as they work. In the last 5 years, the La Salle County Fair Association has provided over $100,000 in scholarships to students enrolled in higher education from our community, and we constantly strive to continue raising that number.
The Wild Hog Cook-Off is (by far) the largest event we host. Local students also compete in over 10 individual contests as a part of the fair. Each year we also give out over $2,000 in direct premium awards to winning students, while they earn participation points for their scholarships.
Our number two priority is getting rid of wild hogs! The Wild Hog Cook-Off was started to drum up a good time and knock down the invasive and destructive wild hogs we all loathe and detest in South Texas. We did something right, because the event has grown exponentially over the years. Expanding from nine teams on the front lawn of the old VFW in the early 1980s to 250 measured spaces, often sold out weeks in advance, and 10,000 patrons in attendance… it’s safe to say our 40-year-old event is a true South Texas beast of its own kind!
We aim to produce an event like no other, bringing on student organizations, other community non-profits, and a great team effort by all our local service and government entities. Have a look at the fact sheet and sponsorship options attached here, and feel free to get in touch if you’ve got questions. This organization has been a passion of mine for 20 years, and I am proud to say that I am a former La Salle County Fair Association Scholarship recipient myself. Thank you again for your time and support. Can’t wait to see you at the 2024 La Salle County Fair & Wild Hog Cook-Off.
Sincerely,
La Salle County Fair Association
